Hey, welcome to Pod the North! A newsletter for the Canadian podcasting ecosystem.
I’m Kattie Laur [PRONOUNCED: KAY-TEE LORE], a Canadian freelance podcast producer who’s desperate to see some change in this industry.
I’m tired of American podcasts dominating the ears of my fellow Canucks.
I’m over indie podcasts being over shadowed.
I’m desperate to see my work get some recognition.
If you’re here, I know you can relate.
Pod the North is my attempt to uplift this fractured community - to create the northern revolution that will put Canadian podcasts on the map.
Lil’ ol’ me? Maybe I’m being too ambitious, but a girl can at least try…
Here’s what you can expect…
Every other week, I’m putting out an issue of Pod the North that includes:
Canadian podcast ecosystem commentary (to keep you in the loop)
Indie podcast features
Indigenous podcast features
Opportunities for your podcast ($$$ and notoriety!)
Digestible interviews with Canadian podcasters who you need to know about
Anything I think you’ll find helpful or hilarious (probably some tweets)
Why me?
Well, I haven’t been able to shut up about this stuff for a while now.
I’ve been pretty outspoken on Twitter and my blog about what I believe makes a healthy podcast community - and it’s not marketing “gurus”. More notably, I wrote an open letter to Canadian podcast networks urging them to do more over on the Vocal Fry Studios blog in April 2022.
I make Canadian podcasts that are trying to shake things up. On my podcast, Alpaca My Bags, Erin Hynes and I are unpacking what it means to be responsible traveler and change the travel industry for the better. On The Betakit Podcast, I’m helping Douglas Soltys and Rob Kenedi uplift the Canadian tech and innovation ecosystem. On Building Good, I’m helping to fight for a sustainable and equitable built environment.
I’m on a mission to use podcasts to do a whole lot more for Canada and the greater good for our world, and I know there are thousands of podcasts out there doing the same.
At the end of the day, I’m no one special. But I can be pretty shameless about my love for this space - and that’s gotta count for something.
I hope you’ll support my efforts and help to foster this incredible community, and here’s how you can!
